Day 1: Friday, March 3 — Afternoon arrival La Habana

  • Arrival Havana, Cuba—José Martí international Airport. We can arrange your ticket and visa upon request.

  • Check In Casa Particular—Afternoon arrival at your home base in Havana.

  • Dinner—Contemporary Cuban cuisine in family-run restaurant.

  • Orientation—Everything you need to know to get safely around the city.

Day 2: Saturday, March 4 — Vedado & Habana Vieja

  • Welcome lecture – Q & A

  • Vedado walking tour – get to know the home base.

  • Tour of Old Havana: Take an afternoon walking tour through the historic center of la habana vieja, a village founded in 1519 and declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1982.

Day 3: Sunday, March 5— Cuban Revolution

  • Lecture on Social Development Achievements & Challenges

  • Visit to Afro-Cuban cultural center

  • Dance lessons

Day 4: Monday, March 6 — La Habana: Past & Present

  • · Lecture on Developments in U.S.-Cuban Relations

  • · Walking tour of Capitolio & Parque Central

  • · Dinner & visit to historical fortress (Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña) and canon ceremony (Ceremonia del Cañonazo).

Day 5: Tuesday, March 7 — The New Cuban Economy & Social Justice

  • · Lecture on Cuban Economy, Recovery, and Social Justice

  • · Visit to neighborhood community center

  • · Visit to artisan crafts market

Day 6: Wednesday, March 8 — Gender & The Revolution

  • · Lecture on Gender & Feminism in Cuba

  • · Visit to the Centro Martin Luther King

  • · Concert & dinner

Day 7: Thursday, March 9 — Viñales, Pinar del Rio

  • · Lecture on Sexuality and the Revolution

  • · Depart for Viñales

  • · Lodging check in & dinner

Day 8: Friday, March 10 Valle de Viñales

· Excursion in the Parque Nacional de Viñales (hike or ride horses) – visit family farms and taste local products.

· Traditional lunch with tobacco farmers

· Percussion lessons

Day 9: Saturday, March 11 — Pinar del Rio & Havana

· Cave hike with boat ride

· Visit local artisan market

· Return to Havana

Day 10: Sunday March 12 — Cojimar & Playas del Este

· Explore natural and coastal areas located east of Havana.

· Visit Hemingway’s haunt Cojimar

· Farewell dinner

Day 11 Monday March 13 — Return to the United States

· Transfer to the Jose Martí International Airport and return flight to the United States.

  • 10 nights in a casa particular in Havana & Viñales.

Note: Due to the nature of travel in Cuba, our itinerary is subject to change. An updated schedule will be sent prior to departure but participants will need to be highly flexible and willing to accept modifications to the program

Flights

This tour does not include flights to Cuba, but we are happy to help arrange them!

When you book, tell us which city you're coming from, and we'll get back to you with a quote and a proposed flight schedule.

If you accept our quote, the flight and $35 per person ticketing fee will be due immediately. Should you decide to book your own flights, we will suggest preferred flights for Havana arrival.

You will need to arrive by 1:30pm on Day 1. The exact time and meeting location will be discussed in online orientation. U.S. regulations do not allow participants to arrive before or stay after the program.

ACTIVITY LEVEL & CONDITIONS: Sun and heat; walking two miles a day; uneven pavement and dirt paths; getting on and off of a bus/van, buildings and streets with high curbs, uneven steps, and stairs without railings.
